Days after Michael Douglas appeared on The View to promote his new memoir, One Helluva Ride, his longtime wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, also joined the table to talk about her new action series Kill Jackie.

The subject of Douglas’ book was covered at the top of the discussion, and Jones explained why she hasn’t read his book just yet.

“Look, I mean, I finished the third season of Wednesday. Seven months, came straight to London. Started Kill Jackie promotion. Went to Bilbao, Spain, [for] Kill Jackie promotion. Came to New York only to see you girls, of course. I don’t need to go home and read about my husband,” she explained.

When one of the cohosts remarked that she knows everything that’s in the headline-making text, though, Zeta-Jones shrugged in doubt. However, she clarified that she would eventually sit down and take it in.

“No, of course I’m going to read it. I’m going to have that [when] I’m finished. I can sit down and read it. I know he worked really hard on it, and he’s really proud of it. And it’s part of a legacy of a great, great career, great guy, and I happen to be married to him,” she said.

When Ana Navarro noted that her favorite chapter of the book was the one about Zeta-Jones herself, describing it as bringing “tears to the eyes because it’s so beautiful,” Jones reacted with shock to say, “Maybe I should read it when I go home!”

The cohosts then relayed that one passage in the book talks about how he fell in love with her on-screen in The Mask of Zorro, and he told her he was going to be the father of her children on their first meeting.

To that, Zeta-Jones said, “[It was] a little much. A little much…. Usually, people’s reaction is, ‘Aw.’ I go, ‘No, no, no, no, no. You just think about that for one minute.’ You just met the guy. You’ve heard a lot about him. You’ve read a lot about him, and everything is true. Good night.”

However, she later added, “Twenty-six years on, and I’m a lucky lady.”
