What To Know

  • Beach Boys singer Mike Love, 85, returned to the stage after a health-related hiatus, supported by John Stamos and his son Christian Love.
  • John Stamos honored Love as a “father figure” and “fighter,” sharing on Instagram that despite serious health challenges, Love insisted on performing for his fans.
  • Both Stamos and Christian emphasized the importance of supporting Love in doing what he loves—performing music — even as his health remains uncertain.

The Beach Boys singer Mike Love performed for the first time since July amid ongoing health issues — with help from John Stamos and his son, Christian Love.

On October 10, Love, 85, sang at a concert in Cincinnati, Ohio. Stamos told fans at PNC Pavilion that Love had “been going through some health issues … but he would not miss tonight.”

Christian added, “As a family member, you want him to stay home and get healthy. But as a fan, you want to see him come out and do the music. So tonight, we’re going to support him in doing what he loves to do, which  is coming here and refusing to cancel this one.”

“It’s what he loves the most,” Stamos said. “He loves the audience, he loves the music. He knows how important it is to all of you. So we’re all here to support him and give him as much love as we can.”

As Stamos and Christian helped guide Love to the stage during a video montage honoring The Beach Boys, fans clapped and cheered for him.

The Full House star also posted a heartfelt tribute to his “father figure” on Instagram ahead of the October 11 show in Nashville, Tennessee.

“My beloved friend, father figure, musical hero and mentor, Mike Love, is facing serious health challenges,” Stamos shared. “We hope he’ll be doing what he loves for years to come, but we don’t know what the future holds. We have tonight.”

Stamos also described Love as “a fighter,” explaining that he “insists on being on stage” despite doctors, family members, and friends “urging him to focus on his health.”

He continued, “I’ve played with Mike for 41 years. I never imagined how deeply it would affect me to see someone larger than life face something so human and fragile. The Mike Love we see tonight may not be exactly the Mike we’ve always known. But he’s still every bit the Mike we love.”

After detailing how Love has personally impacted his life, Stamos shared, “I want to cherish every second without feeling those seconds slipping away. That’s what I’m giving him.”

The actor behind Uncle Jesse then declared, “We don’t know what tomorrow brings. But we have tonight.”
