Saturday Night Live‘s “Weekend Update” mocked President Donald Trump losing the Nobel Peace Prize and Pete Hegseth wanting to livestream the execution by firing squad of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan.
In the Saturday, October 10 episode of SNL, Colin Jost and Michael Che took aim at the POTUS and the Secretary of War during their “Weekend Update” segment.
“Unfortunately, we have to start tonight with a tragic developing story involving President Trump — no, not that,” Jost began. “It’s that President Trump has sadly not won the Nobel Peace Prize. I know, but don’t worry. I think he’s taking it all in stride.”
SNL then cut to a clip of Trump declaring, “The Nobel Prize was given out today to a liberal person who works at the United Nations who nobody has ever heard of.”
To that, Jost laughed and pointed out, “He’s genuinely angry that he didn’t win the peace prize. Trump kidnapped Venezuela’s president, then he did so much war that we’re running out of missiles, and he still thought, ‘This is my year.'”
He then quipped, “He’s truly like if I thought I might win an Oscar for Tom & Jerry.”
Che then reported that Nobel Peace Prize winner, Navi Pillay, joked with the crowd at a conference in Germany that, “if they clap a little more, she may share this prize with Trump.” He added, “Which is a harmless little joke that may make Trump bomb whatever country he thinks she’s from.”
Additionally, Che addressed the Fort Hood shooter’s upcoming execution, which Hegseth said would be livestreamed. He joked that it would be “the first public execution in the U.S. since, I want to say, a couple of weeks ago.” The screen then displayed a photo of ICE agents on a front porch.
Meanwhile, Jost reported that Hegseth is being criticized after unveiling the new Department of War logo “that features an angular eagle similar to the one used by the Nazis.” He quipped, “Hegseth asked how upset people were about it on a scale of here to here,” as he gestured low to high.
