‘KPop Demon Hunters’: Nextwav Reveals His Hopes for Sequel Movie
What To Know
- KPop Demon Hunters is getting a sequel, due for release on Netflix in 2029.
- Nextwav, who provided the singing voice for Abby Saja in the original film, opened up to TV Insider about his hopes for the next movie.
- Although Abby was killed at the end of the first film, Nextwav hopes he can be “resurrected” in the sequel.
In 2025, KPop Demon Hunters took the world by storm when it premiered on Netflix. In March 2026, the streamer confirmed there will be a sequel to its most popular film of all time, so we had to ask Nextwav about it when he stopped by our studio at New York Comic Con on October 8.
“I would love to be back on the second film,” Nextwav, who provided the singing voice for SungWon Cho’s Abby Saja in the first movie, revealed. “I know it’s been confirmed that the second one is happening, for sure, but as you can see in the movie, I was sliced right in half. So hopefully there’s a way to resurrect.”
Abby, a demon who disguised himself as a K-pop star to steal fans away from HUNTR/X, was slashed by Mira (May Hong) during the final conflict of KPop Demon Hunters. However, if the writers figure out a way to bring him back for the sequel, Nextwav said he’d “definitely love to sing another song or two” in the follow-up film.

Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans are returning to direct the sequel, which is reportedly estimated for a 2029 release.
“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” Kang said. “There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”
Appelhans added, “These characters are like family to us. Their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”
In addition to being a heavily streamed film, KPop Demon Hunters also gave the world the hit song “Golden,” which won a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media and the Oscar for Best Original Song.
