‘The View’s Sunny Hostin Makes Bold Prediction for Texas Senate Race

The cohosts of The View reacted to Donald Trump‘s latest campaign speech in Texas, in which he clarified his comments about letting Iran “take out” certain California cities, and they each had a lot to say about the state of the race in the Lone Star State.

Reacting to polls showing that Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico is leading Republican Ken Paxton, Sunny Hostin made a very bold prediction about the seat: Talarico will win.

“I think we will see Texas go blue, I really do,” Hostin said. “In September, not only one but eight pollsters had Tallerico ahead, 51 to 45 percent. That is so significant, given that a Democrat hasn’t won statewide office in 30 years. That same poll showed that he is leading Paxton among women, 56% to 40% among voters aged 18 to 29. 66% to 22% and among Hispanics, 62% to 30%. We’re talking about Texas. He’s going to win this.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin was a little more unsure, explaining, “I mean, the fact that Texas is in play speaks to the moment right now that people are so frustrated with the current leadership. A Democrat hasn’t won statewide in Texas in over 30 years. I still think it could go either direction for Paxton or Talarico, but this is kind of a perfect storm.” She also called it a “mess of the president’s own making,” pointing to Trump’s endorsement of Paxton — “an ethically plagued guy with the charisma of a shoe,” Griffin noted — instead of the incumbent, John Cornyn.

Whoopi Goldberg offered a note of caution by pointing out, “We’ve seen this before.”

Ana Navarro agreed with Griffin’s point about “the unforced error” Trump made with his endorsement, adding, “Just understand this: He got mad at John Cornyn because, John Cornyn, in 2023, said that Trump’s time had passed him by. That’s about it. After that, he voted over 99% with Trump, but that wasn’t enough for him. He never forgave him. Never got over it. And out of spite, went with Ken Paxton, who is the worst candidate that they could have picked.” The second issue in the race, per Navarro, is the swing back to the Democratic Party for Latino voters, who helped Trump win his election.

Sara Haines chimed in to agree that Trump is “definitely not helping in Texas” and pointed to the leaked bits of audio of Paxton blaming the Iran War and the rise in gas prices under Trump for some of his problems in the polls. She then noted, “Trump’s approval rating in Texas is at 36%. I mean, this is a state that typically backs him wholeheartedly.”

Goldberg agreed that opinions of Trump have likely changed because, “People are seeing now that all of the things that we’ve been seeing over the last couple of years, all of the ICE insanity, all of the taking down of history, all of the things that they’re doing in museums… This involves all of us. And so, people thought they were voting for somebody who had a very clear vision. In fact, the clear vision was to remove as many of us as he could, and now that we all realize that we’re included in that, people are starting to go, ‘Well, wait a minute now. I can’t feed my family. I thought you were doing this over here.'” However, concluded the talk with her usual caveat: that viewers have to vote to make anything happen.”You’ll make the decision. We will make the decision because this is now on us. You can’t wait for somebody else to do this. This is on each and every one of you.”
