What To Know

  • Jimmy Kimmel marked Fox News’ 30th anniversary with a satirical look back at the network’s ‘greatest’ moments.
  • The late-night host highlighted Fox News’ role in fueling outrage among older viewers.
  • He also showcased a montage of controversial Fox News moments.

Jimmy Kimmel took a moment on Wednesday night (October 7) to mark Fox News’ 30th anniversary in his own unique way, describing the right-leaning network as “B.E.T. for angry white grandpas.”

“Today is a notable day for America in two ways,” the late-night host said on Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! “Number one, it is the 10-year anniversary of the Access Hollywood grab ’em by the Billy Bush tape. And it is also the 30th anniversary of Fox News.”

He continued, “Fox News turned 30 years old today, and what do you get for the network that ruined everything? Fox News launched on October 7th, 1996 as sort of a B.E.T for angry white grandpas.”

Kimmel provided his own history of Fox News, saying, “Three decades ago, a visionary named Rupert Murdoch asked a simple question. He asked, ‘What if the news was whatever I want it to be?’ And with nothing more than millions of dollars and a complete disregard for the America in which he wasn’t born, he turned that idea into what has become the number one reason you can’t talk to your dad anymore.”

The comedian then played a clip from Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy celebrating the network’s milestone by promoting two limited-edition wines viewers can purchase.

“That’s right. Take it from Steve Doocy, you will never find whiter wine than this,” Kimmel quipped.

He added, “I’m going to say something: we are so fortunate to have Fox. Long before Newsmax, long before Real America’s Voice and the Right Side Broadcasting Network, Fox News was there planting the seeds of the vision, making sure our old people get mad and stay mad. And whether it’s an ad for a reverse mortgage or a catheter or a walk-in tub, Fox News is always there.”

Kimmel then said the team had combed through the Fox News archive to put together a “fair and balanced tribute to our dearest Fox and Friends.”

The highlight reel included some of Fox News’ most head-turning moments, including complaints about SpongeBob SquarePants talking about global warming, Megyn Kelly saying “Jesus was a white man, as is Santa,” attacks on former President Barack Obama’s “latte salute” and tan suit, Tucker Carlson complaining about the green M&M “no longer wearing sexy boots,” and numerous claims of culture wars, such as “war on Christmas,” “war on men,” “war on meat,” and more.

“Thank you for your service,” Kimmel said after the montage finished, adding, “After watching that, I do need some wine.”
