Abbott Elementary is back, and class is almost in session as Season 6 opened up with “Jungle Classroom,” a premiere that saw the faculty getting settled into their classrooms for the start of a new school year. Warning: Spoilers for the Abbott Elementary Season 6 Premiere!

As Janine (Quinta Brunson) tried to wow her incoming class with some extremely immersive decorations, transforming the space into a jungle getaway, she was told left and right what a bad idea it was. Still, she persevered, and some sweet words from Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) encouraged her to go through with the room makeover.

On the other side of things, Gregory (Tyler James Williams) began settling into his role as Assistant Principal, which irked Ava (Janelle James), especially when he tried to get the school some portable air conditioners amid an outage in the building. Although Ava tried telling him that getting through to the superintendent was impossible, he was undeterred and brought his ambition all the way to the golf course, where the man (played by Geoffrey Owens) was in the midst of a business-related game.

Gregory asked for what the school needed, though, and the resounding yes shocked both him and Ava. Despite that victory for Gregory, it was revealed that the teacher he had lined up to take over his classroom was actually AI, and therefore, he would have to remain a teacher while balancing his new job.

Ava also revealed to Gregory that she knows he plans to propose to Janine after O’Shon (Matthew Law) told her about his plans, unveiling a very interesting thread for the season. Meanwhile, Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) got hit by a car because she was looking at her phone while crossing the street, so Jacob (Chris Perfetti) set out to find a crossing guard who could prevent incidents like that.

And Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) faced off with one of the new teachers (played by American Housewife‘s Katy Mixon), after the newbie was given Melissa’s first-floor classroom. After some back-and-forth, Melissa admitted that after a recent injury, she needed to stay on the first floor, and after she learned the newbie had a crush on Morton (Jerry Minor), she sealed the deal for a room trade when she noted the upstairs class was across the hall from his.

Needless to say, it was a fun return for all involved, with plenty of set-up as Season 6 unfolds. Let us know what you thought of the Abbott Elementary Season 6 premiere in the comments section below, and stay tuned for more as the latest chapter unfolds.
