Prince Harry is reportedly considering a Princess Diana documentary for the 30th anniversary of his mother’s death.
In an article published on Monday, September 21, People reported that the Duke of Sussex is exploring several different options to mark three decades since Princes Diana died.
Reportedly, Prince Harry has reached out to family members and friends of his late mom, sources told the publication. No plans for a documentary have been finalized or confirmed, however.
On August 31, 1997, Princess Diana was involved in a car crash during the early-morning hours inside the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. Her partner, Dodi Fayed, and the driver both died at the scene. Although Princess Diana was rushed to a nearby hospital, she died from her injuries.
In 2017, Diana’s sons honored her in a documentary titled Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy for the 20th anniversary of her death. Prince William, 44, and Prince Harry, 42, opened up about the lasting impact of losing their mother so young; Prince Harry was only 12, and Prince William was 15 when Princess Diana died.
Since then, however, the brothers’ relationship has soured. Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, 45, stepped back from their duties as senior members of the royal family in 2020 and settled in California. They recently moved back to England with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, but remain largely estranged from Prince William.
Prince Harry has since opened up about losing his mother in his 2023 memoir Spare. Meanwhile, Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer, 62, just released his memoir Swan Song: Diana, My Sister on Tuesday, September 22.
Through the years, other documentaries about Princess Diana have included the 2022 film The Princess, the National Geographic documentary Diana: In Her Own Words (2017), the BBC-produced Diana, 7 Days (2017), and the two-part ABC doc The Story of Diana (2017), among others.
