‘Wheel of Fortune’ Contestant Loses $105,000 After Husband Shocks Ryan Seacrest
He’s her what? Host Ryan Seacrest thought a Wheel of Fortune contestant introduced her husband as something that made him question his hearing. She went on to lose $105,000.
Alicia St. Angelo, from Belmar, New Jersey, played against Anthony Shockley, from Searcy, Arkansas, and Taylor Malloy, from Chicago, Illinois, on September 16. St. Angelo, a PR worker at the Westminster Dog Show, solved three Fortune Frenzys. Malloy, who does 3D hair art, solved one.
Shockley, a Dollar General truck driver with nine children, solved the first puzzle – “Let’s Get the Ball Rolling” – putting him in the lead with $5,600. He took even more of a lead with $15,050 when he solved the “Before & After” puzzle – “Protein Shake Your Booty.”
Malloy solved most of the next puzzle until she landed on Bankrupt. When it was St. Angelo’s turn, she decided to ride the Express Train. The puzzle looked like “YO_ GOTTA GO _NO_ _ _ _ _NG.” She guessed letters until there were only vowels left. The game show contestant correctly solved “You Gotta Go Snorkeling” for a trip to Belize. This gave her the lead with $17,273.
St. Angelo solved two of the three Triple Toss-ups while Shockley solved the third. She solved most of the final puzzle before the final spin, allowing her to increase her total. The contestant solved “Pulling Off an Upset,” giving her a final total of $30,173.
Malloy went home with $1,000. Shockley had $17,050. St. Angelo advanced to the Bonus Round, where she picked “What Are You Doing?”
St. Angelo brought her husband and “Boo’s Daddy” with her to cheer her on. “That’s our Chihuahua.” Seacrest stared at her and said, “Your Booze Daddy? Is Booze your dog’s name?”
“Boo,” St. Angelo corrected.
“Booze Daddy. Sure. Why not?” Seacrest said. “It’s evening time.”
A fan reacted to the interaction on Reddit. “That was hilarious when Alicia introduced her husband, and Seacrest thought she said ‘my loving husband and more importantly booze daddy.'”
After she recovered from laughing, Wheel of Fortune gave St. Angelo “R,S,T,L,N, and E.” She rounded out her puzzle with “G,D,M, and I.”
The puzzle then looked like “I’M _I_ _TING.” As the clock counted down, she guessed “I’m Lightning” and “I’m Yelling.”
St. Angelo couldn’t guess “I’m Pivoting” for an extra $75,000. This would have given her $105,173.
