What To Know

  • Alex Witt delivered an tearful farewell on September 6, ending her 27-year tenure as a news anchor at MS NOW.
  • Throughout her career, Witt covered major events such as 9/11, the Iraq war, and the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.
  • She expressed deep gratitude to her colleagues, viewers, and family for their support.

Alex Witt couldn’t hold back her tears on Sunday, September 6, as she signed off from MS NOW for the final time, marking the end of her 27-year career with the news network.

The veteran news anchor announced her departure in July, bringing a close to an almost three-decade career covering the biggest stories in politics on Saturdays and Sundays. Witt has reported on major events throughout her time at MS NOW, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Iraq war, the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, and many more.

“Let’s go now to our last moments together, because there’s a great line from the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off: ‘Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it,'” Witt said toward the end of Sunday’s episode of Alex Witt Reports.

She continued, “So with that in mind, I want to take a moment with all of you to look around at the stories, the people, and a job that has allowed me to report, in many cases, the rough draft of history for 27 years.”

After playing a video montage of her MS NOW career, an emotional Witt said, “Wow!” before thanking the archives team for working on such a tremendous video package.

“And a special thanks to my longtime executive producer, Nick Kovijanic, who — I knew it would be hard to get to this,” she added before becoming choked up. “You’re a champion, Nick. You fought for me, this show, our team. I’ve never stopped learning from you. You’ve inspired my approach to covering the news and the way I interpret the world around me. You’ve been my rudder through all of this. I promise to keep staring in that direction.”

A tearful Witt invited the crew to come and join her at the desk as she said her final farewell. “So look, it takes a village. My village is here,” she stated. “I want to [say] thank you to all of the wonderful colleagues at MS NOW. My studio crew, my technical crew in the control booth, especially these people, my team, for their excellence, for putting in long hours to make it happen every single weekend.”

She then addressed the viewers, saying, “It has been such a privilege to earn your trust delivering the news. I’m grateful for your loyalty, keeping me right here in this anchor chair all these years, doing this job that I love. Thank you.”

Finally, Witt turned her attention to her family. “I’m a mom, so to my son and daughter, thank you for embracing and understanding the many ways my weekend hours impacted you. I’m forever proud of you two, and love you till the end of time,” she shared before delivering her final sign-off.

“That’s going to do it for me on this edition of Alex Witt Reports. Enjoy your holidays!” Witt concluded.

TV news companies think that by getting new , younger, people in front of the camera...will bring the audiences back.. not true.. It's the times we are in where families are living day to day...worried about what is next. Especially in California where it is the most expensive place to live and we have cities that are dying ..and nothing can bring them back...sad times abd all jobs are seeing a down turn...

How untrue.....MSNOW creates thoughtful discussion. Points are laid out and debated. Enlighten not brainwash. Analytical processing. Low IQ look elsewhere.
