Aside from being the beloved Jeopardy! host, did Alex Trebek also live in the White House?  Jeopardy! Masters contestant Victoria Groce revealed a hilarious story involving her daughter when she was younger, and how a friend confused Trebek with the President of the United States.

During the September 1 episode of Jeopardy! Masters, host Ken Jennings talked to Groce, a writer and speaker from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, during the interview portion. “Now, in Final Jeopardy, when we see you play, you often put a little nod to your daughter. You say, ‘Hi Nora,'” he said.

“I understand when Nora was little, one of her friends was very impressed.”

“This is true,” Groce revealed.

“What was the thing that impressed her?” Jennings asked.

Groce said that after Nora’s third or fourth birthday party, one of Nora’s friends came up to Groce and said, “Miss Victoria, I have to tell you something.” She leaned down to the girl to hear what she had to say.

“She says, ‘I saw the picture of you with the president.’ And I thought for a minute because there does not exist a photo of me with any president,” Groce said.

“And then, I realized where she and the other kids had been playing. And I said to her, ‘Oh, honey. That’s not the president. That’s Alex Trebek.”

Jennings laughed as her Jeopardy! photo with Trebek showed on the screen. “It was your Jeopardy! picture,” he said.

Even though many fans probably would have wanted Trebek to be the president before his death in 2020, he wouldn’t have been able to. Despite spending a lot of his time in California, Trebek was actually born in Canada. To be president, someone has to be a natural-born citizen of the United States.

Groce won that game, securing her lead at the top of the leaderboard with 12 match points. She was on Jeopardy! with Trebek in 2005, during her 19-game winning streak.

“I mean, I’d vote for him,” one fan commented.

Would you have voted for Alex Trebek for president if he was eligible? Let us know in the comments.
