‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ Trailer: Hondo’s After a Mole on His New Team
What To Know
- S.W.A.T. Exiles follows Shemar Moore’s Hondo as he returns to lead a new team of talented but rejected officers.
- The trailer reveals there’s a mole on the team.
When Hondo (Shemar Moore) gets back to work on S.W.A.T. Exiles, premiering on Friday, September 25, on Starz, he has a lot against him, as the newly released trailer for the spinoff details.
His former commander, Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit returning), is the one to recruit him back. “The job still matters. I want you back at SWAT,” he tells him.
However, once Hondo reads his team’s personnel files, he sees what everyone else did: “Rejections, flaws, reasons to pass you over. And then they paired you with me, a disgraced has-been clinging to his badge,” he tells them. “That is what they say about me behind my back. They didn’t pick us to succeed, to reform anything. They picked us all to burn together.” But he doesn’t have much choice when it comes to making sure they’re field-ready.
Furthermore, Hondo knows “someone powerful is making moves, and I’m done being a pawn,” as he tells Hicks. His plan? To “bury them.”

Plus, he can’t even trust his team. There’s a mole on it, and he says he’s going to “smoke the traitor out… and make him pay.” As Deacon (Jay Harrington, also returning) says, “We’re going to need a bigger team.” Might that be where the other OG appearing in the new series comes in, Tan (David Lim)?
Starz has also released more details about the series itself, including a long description, including what led to Hondo leaving the job behind in the first place: “A botched raid ends in the death of a young operator, Nico Reyes.”
Making up the new unit of “LA’s most talented rejects” are “Sammy Bishop (Lucy Barrett), a gun-show influencer with something to prove; Ethan Cole (Freddy Miyares), a socially awkward tactical savant; Cassidy Reed (Zyra Gorecki), guarded and determined to earn her place; Jude Callan (Ronen Rubinstein), a wildcard with a troubled past; and Malik Anderson (Adain Bradley), sharp, ambitious, and hiding more than anyone realizes.”
The synopsis continues, “As the squad cuts its teeth on Los Angeles’ most volatile threats, such as cartel assassins, gun-runners, and a city on edge, Hondo starts pulling on a thread that won’t let go: someone inside his own unit has been feeding information to outside interests. What begins as paranoia becomes a slow-motion realization: S.W.A.T. itself is being set up to fail, and someone with real power wants it gone; replaced by something more private, more controllable, and far less accountable. Caught between protecting his team, chasing the truth, and staying one step ahead of the people trying to erase him, Hondo has to decide how far he’s willing to go, and who he can actually trust, as the walls close in. Alliances shift, loyalties are tested, and by the season’s end, Hondo and the Exiles are forced into a final reckoning that will determine not just their careers, but the future of S.W.A.T. itself.”
S.W.A.T. Exiles was commissioned by Sony Pictures Television. Showrunner Jason Ning executive produces with Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Shemar Moore, James Scura, and Jon Cowan.

I guess we'll learn early on why Hondo is 'disgraced'? He sure wasn't disgraced when the series ended. And I assume they'll reference Nichelle & Vivienne. (One thing I hate about reboots like this is original stories and relationships and reputations are often ret-conned... and ruined in the process.)
I won't be watching this 'live,' as I don't have the streaming channel, but I'll eventually see it, so I hope it's good.
