Brittany Romano, aka “Green Dress Lady,” went viral at the Lindsay Clancy Trial

On Monday, August 24, a Court TV livestream panned over members of the press present at the trial. Among them was Romano, who beamed at the camera while making faces and wearing a green dress. A clip of the brief moment soon spread on social media.

Lindsay, 36, has been charged with three first-degree murder counts in the January 2023 deaths of her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. She also cut her wrists and throat and jumped out of a second-story window, paralyzing her from the waist down. Although the defense does not dispute that Lindsay killed her children, her attorney, Kevin Reddington, argues that Lindsay is not criminally responsible because she suffered from severe postpartum psychosis.

Romano faced intense backlash for her behavior at the Lindsay Clancy trial

Many users expressed disgust over the inappropriateness of Romano’s behavior, considering the trial revolved around the murders of three young kids.

On X, one critic wrote, “That woman clearly has 1) no class, 2) serious emotional issues, 3) is a serial narcissist, 4) has no concept of where she is & the gravity of the environment’s purpose & scope; three innocents dead, mom is the admitted killer who’s on trial; not a time for giggling & laughter.”

Another replied, “Winking at a camera during a brutal murder trial and then bragging about not caring shows a total lack of empathy. Media narcissism at its absolute worst.”

Someone else speculated, “My god, the narcissism is literally dripping off of her face. She cannot be more happy to have a camera on her.”

Meanwhile, yet another X user commented, “Three kids lost their lives and she’s treating the courtroom like a red carpet, then insults the public for calling out her arrogance.”

Romano defended herself against critics

Romano has responded to the backlash on her Instagram Stories. She shared screenshots of a long list of critical DMs, alongside the message, “This case is about mental health right?” Romano added, “I love my life but [god] forbid I ever killed myself (I would never) but would u imagine the words they’d wax here trying to say they didn’t send these awful things.”

Finally, Brittany wrote, “I’m actually proud of myself because these trolls have been absolutely vile: telling me to kill myself, telling me to slit my wrists, attacking me personally— and then blaming a trial for their behavior.”

On August 26, Brittany also declared via Instagram, “A smile is not a crime. Telling a woman to slit her wrists is.” She also explained, “I smile through anxiety. I smile when I’m uncomfortable. That is not indifference, it is a nervous system managing strain the only way it knows how.”
