Peachfuzz is back for a third season of The Creep Tapes, the small-screen continuation of the cult-classic films, 2014’s Creep and 2017’s Creep 2. Mark Duplass will once again return as the man who is mostly known as Josef, the eccentric and socially uncomfortable serial killer who lures unsuspecting victims under false pretenses to film their interactions and later slaughter them for his amusement.

The premise of The Creep Tapes builds directly on the twist ending from the first film, where it is revealed that Josef has a hidden cache of videotapes documenting dozens of previous victims.

Duplass, who is the cocreator, cowriter, executive producer, and lead star of the found-footage cringe horror franchise, hinted that the third season will explore more of Peachfuzz’s backstory: “You are going to know a little bit more about why he is the way he is,” explained Duplass. “We always like to drop little hints, and you are going to get a little more this year. And I think beyond that, this year is more of a celebration of the truly strange nature of this human and allowing it to be as deeply uncomfortable as we have ever been.”

“So this season is really going to explore the minutiae of human interaction. That moment when you are trying to figure out, ‘Is this just uncomfortable, or am I just in danger right now?'” explained Duplass.

Before we dive into the upcoming uncomfortable horror of Season 3, let’s think back on the fumbling frights of Season 2.

How did Season 2 of The Creep Tapes begin?

The second season kicks off with a meta-filled tale of twists that turns the original Creep on its head. The killer (Duplass) discovers he has a copycat, “Joseph” (David Dastmalchian), who is impersonating him and meticulously recreating the events of the first Creep film.

By the end of the episode, the copycat is psychologically destroyed by the real Josef, and he realizes he is a pale comparison to his hero. In the end, Josef dies by suicide rather than live with the disappointment.

Who were a few other memorable victims of Josef in Season 2?

Fans of Season 2 also met Wes (Diego Josef), who thought he was meeting a man named “Trip” for a house-flipping reality show; two police officers who attempted to help Wes; Mark (Robert Longstreet), a poor schmuck who failed Josef’s measly attempt at a Saw-esque escape room; documentarian Ava (Taylor Garron) who wanted to make the next Tiger King series; and the father of a man named Nick (Timm Sharp) who had his head removed as a part of a terrible, terrible Christmas present/theraputic device.

What happened in The Creep Tapes Season 2 finale?

In Episode 6, Mark Duplass’s wife, Katie Aselton, plays the character Angela, who was previously only heard through a series of phone calls in the original 2014 Creep movie.

Angela is depicted as the unhinged sister of Josef, who attempts to seduce her brother by claiming that their childhood play marriage constitutes a real marriage. Unable to get Josef to bend to her whims, she calls a maintenance man, a faux “Josef,” and attempts to seduce him instead. This only riles up the real Josef, who kills the man, which appears to excite Angela. After Josef stands his ground with his sister, she attempts to die using a shock collar, but Josef saves her. In the final moments, Angela makes one last move on him — and this time, it appears to be successful.
