‘The Pitt’: Noah Wyle Shares Moving Story About Real ER Doctor That Speaks to Robby’s Season 2 Journey

Emmy voting is officially underway, and HBO Max hosted an Emmy Nominee Celebration on Sunday, August 16. It, of course, included the cast and producers of The Pitt, which leads all nominees with 25 nods — including 13 in the acting categories — this year.

During the panel, Noah Wyle, with nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Drama Series, shared a moving story, as you can see in an exclusive clip above. An ER doctor from Texas visited The Pitt‘s set in its first season, then during the second, reached out.

“He wrote us and let us know that a physician that he worked with in Texas, a guy that was sort of the Robby of their hospital who had gotten their staff through COVID and everybody went to with all their problems, had gone home that Saturday night and killed himself, and he didn’t know quite what he was asking of me, but he asked whether or not we could send a message to his staff from our staff just to say we’re thinking about you. And so we did,” Wyle revealed.

He continued, “We all shot a video from our little hub area and we just said we’re thinking about you and we know that you’re going through it this week. But the prevalence of this being a real thing you know like that we’re doing every day is never lost on us. Each one of these storylines reverberates with the community that this touches extremely personally, so there’s a responsibility and also a gift in being able to do that kind of storytelling.”

The first two seasons directly address the mental health of The Pitt‘s doctors, no one more so than with Robby, who had a breakdown during the first season’s mass casualty incident and had everyone concerned in the second, especially after a shocking confession in the penultimate episode.
