On Sunday, August 9, the Lizzie McGuire star, 38, honored her ex at a Philadelphia show. She did so by wearing a white T-shirt with a picture of a young Carter during his music heyday. The “I Want Candy” singer died at 34 in 2022; he drowned after taking alprazolam and inhaling difluoroethane.

Following Carter’s death in 2022, Duff broke her silence via Instagram with an emotional tribute.
“For Aaron — I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world,” she wrote. “You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent … boy did my teenage self love you deeply. Sending love to your family at this time. Rest easy.”

Carter and Duff sparked a media frenzy when they dated on and off as young teenagers from 2000 to 2003. In 2001, he even made a guest appearance in a Season 1 episode of Lizzie McGuire titled “Here Comes Aaron Carter.”
Today, Duff is married to producer and singer-songwriter Matthew Koma, 39.
