Hunter Biden Offers Worrying Update on Joe Biden’s Health in TV Interview
What To Know
- Hunter Biden revealed in a BBC interview that Joe Biden’s stage 4 prostate cancer has metastasized to his bones.
- He said his father’s condition has become ‘debilitating’ and is ‘really sad to watch.’
- Despite his declining health, Joe continues to be a central figure in his family’s life.
Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, appeared on BBC’s Newsnight on Friday (August 7) and offered a concerning update about his father’s health amid his diagnosis with stage 4 prostate cancer.
“The only thing that I’ll say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more because it’s not good,” Hunter told host Paddy O’Connell. “The cancer has spread, it’s metastasized into his bones and further. It’s very painful, and it’s very debilitating in many respects, but he’s still out there.”
Joe retired from politics last year and was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May 2025. He underwent skin cancer surgery that September and began radiation therapy in October.
Hunter described Joe’s condition as “really sad to watch,” but spoke highly of his father as a family man. “My dad, to this day, remains the center of our family, not just because of who he is as the public person but completely because of who he is to each one of us,” he stated.
“Down to his grandchildren and his great-grandchild, he is our rock,” Hunter continued. “He has been there for each one of us, in a way that is hard for me to even possibly articulate and explain. And whatever you think about his politics and decisions that he made, I can tell you this, he’s the best father, the best husband, the best grandfather of anyone I’ve ever read about, heard about, or even seen in a movie.”
Hunter’s statement comes two months after Joe’s wife, Jill Biden, appeared on The View, where she shared her own update on her husband’s health battle.
“He’s doing OK,” she said. “As probably everyone in this audience knows — because I’m sure you’ve all been touched by cancer — it’s hard, it’s hard. It’s stage 4, it’s in his bones, but he’s keeping up his schedule, he’s going to D.C. on Amtrak a couple of times a month, he’s speaking at Democratic rallies, he’s writing, so he’s active, he’s Joe.”
When asked how the former president could have cancer that progressed to stage 4 despite having the best medical access in the world, Jill explained, “We had an amazing medical team… but they followed the guidelines of the American Urology Association, which says that men don’t get prostate screening after the age of 70, so unfortunately, they didn’t do the PSA.”
She then shared a message with the audience, saying, “So all you men, because I’m telling you, you need to pay attention to your health. Women, I think, are really good at it, but men, if you’re having a problem, don’t just say, ‘Oh, I’ll get to this later.’ Do something.”
