What To Know

  • Season 3 of Rings of Power will introduce Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lost husband, bringing out a new side of her.
  • Showrunners teased that viewers will witness a romantic flashback to Galadriel and Celeborn’s first meeting.
  • Jamie Campbell Bower talks about Celeborn’s character in the new season.

Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power leaves Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) recovering in Rivendell after a brutal, losing duel with Sauron (Charlie Vickers). Gravely wounded by both the physical battle and Sauron’s psychological attack, she struggles to recover as the Elves attempt to heal the darkness within her.

The future appears bleak for Galadriel, but Season 3 promises to bring a glimmer of hope with the arrival of her long-lost husband, Celeborn (Jamie Campbell Bower).

Long believed missing, the legendary elf lord, renowned warrior, and Galadriel’s husband finally enters the story, marking one of the most significant additions to the series as it continues to move closer to the major events of Tolkien’s story.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay teased what Celeborn’s arrival will mean for Galadriel’s character, explaining that introducing one of the most important people in her life allows audiences to see an entirely different side of the legendary elf.

“You have Galadriel as one character over multiple seasons, but whenever there is anyone who is important in your life, that person brings out other qualities in you, and you see different things when someone is with someone they really love,” explained Payne. “So to bring in Celeborn, you start to see this whole other part of Galadriel.”

Payne also teased a scene in the upcoming Season 3 in which Celeborn and Galadriel first meet.

“We’re going to go back to the First Age when they first met in this really romantic, beautiful epic scene, and then we are going to understand what has happened to her and why she has had this descent she has had in the time since he has been gone,” said Payne. “Then to see him come back again, you’ll again see a completely different part of her come out and flourish.”

Payne’s comments tease how important Celeborn’s return will be for Galadriel’s emotional arc, but bringing such a legendary figure to life also meant finding the right introduction for the character.

“Without giving too much away, Celeborn certainly goes on a journey this season, and that journey is one of growth and one of increasing wisdom, and wisdom only comes through experience, so you have to find a place to start with that. And there is an innocence, I think, that I found, this sort of vulnerability to him that I felt was really important,” said Bower about his character.

“This is a creature that has lived for thousands of years…He has gone through battle,” explained Bower. “I don’t like to use the term battle-hardened; trying to use the term battle-scarred. He’s going through something…there is a darkness in him; he has seen things, and they have formed and shaped who he is when we first meet him.”
