Bill Maher Makes Bold Statement About Trump’s Name-Calling Antics
What To Know
- Bill Maher opened up to Jack Whitehall about why he doesn’t get bothered by Donald Trump calling him names anymore.
- The comedian also slammed those who still get upset by Trump’s personality and antics.
Bill Maher brought up Donald Trump during a recent episode of his Club Random podcast with Jack Whitehall, and opened up about why he no longer lets himself get bothered with the president’s polarizing personality.
The comedian explained how Trump tried to ban him from receiving the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and admitted, “I don’t care. If, at this point, 10 years into the Trump situation, you are still obsessing about his personality, my view is, that’s on you.”
Maher clarified that he still feels Trump should be criticized for “what he actually does in office,” but noted, “To keep just focused on these personality things that we’ve talked about for 10 years … they’re not going to change. That’s who he is. I don’t care when he calls me names now. It’s how he does it. It’s how he talks. It’s who he is. He does these things that you can’t even imagine if you try your hardest.”
He cited Trump covering the Kennedy Center with drapery after his name was taken off the building as an example of the president’s antics. “When he does it, I just gotta go, ‘OK, this is what you do,'” he said.
Maher confirmed that “as long as it’s something that doesn’t really affect me or other people for real,” he doesn’t care what Trump does. He also said that those who care about Trump’s ballroom, lawn UFC fights, and more are “way too into Donald Trump.”
“I’m not going there [with him], you know?” he concluded. “And I’m winning. And I’m a person he attacks personally! And I care less than you do.”
After years of criticizing Trump, Maher agreed to have dinner with him at the White House in 2025. He has come around on the president in some ways, but doesn’t shy away from publicly slamming him when he sees fit.
Maher recently revealed that Trump is “more self-aware” than he comes off in public, but called him a “crazy person” because he “blurts out whatever is on his mind often.”
