Is HGTV Host Retta Married? What We Know About Her Personal Life
Since 2022, Retta has been hosting HGTV’s Ugliest House in America, which returns for a new season on July 20. However, Retta is also known for her career as an actress and comedienne, with roles on shows including Parks and Recreation and Good Girls, among others.
Because of her career in Hollywood, Retta has been in the public eye for years, but she’s also managed to keep a level of privacy, leading many to wonder about her personal life. Below, we rounded up everything we know. Scroll down for more.
Is Retta married?
No, Retta is not married. For the most part, she has been private about her personal life and relationships, so it’s unclear whether she is currently dating anyone.
From 2012 to 2014, Retta had a running joke about dating Joe Manganiello, which began when Yvette Nicole Brown posted a picture with him on X and captioned it, “Hey @unfoRETTAble! Found your boyfriend, @joemanganiello #jealousmuch?” Retta replied, “Nah, not really b/c Joey and I know what we have. And yeah ‘Joey’ cause that’s where WE’RE at. Nicknames.”
After Manganiello went public with his romance with now-ex-wife Sofia Vergara in 2014, Retta jokingly told Us Weekly, “It is with a heavy heart that I learn of Joe Manganiello aka my wolfy Twitter boo is seeing one Ms. Sofia Vergara. As with any (pretend) conscious uncoupling there is still much love and my Mellow Nello (that was what I called my boo in my head) will always hold a special place in my Twitter heart.”
Does Retta have children?
No, Retta does not have any children, a fact she confirmed in a 2018 interview with Variety while promoting her role on Good Girls. However, she is an aunt.
“I have brothers who have spouses and kids, and they’re dealing with this,” she shared.
Why is Retta called Retta?
Retta’s real name is Marietta Sangai Sirleaf, but it was an ex-boyfriend who first started calling her Retta, and the nickname eventually stuck.
“When I was in college, I hooked up with a guy, and he kept calling me Retta,” she shared on an episode of The Real. “And then I told my friends and they thought it was hilarious and continued to call me that. After that, when I started doing stand-up, the MC would be like, ‘Who’s up next?’ I’d be like, ‘Me.’ ‘What’s your name?’ ‘Marietta Sirleaf.’ ‘What?’ ‘Ugh, just Retta!'”
