‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ Finale Sneak Peek: Voit’s Plan Revealed After His Escape
Serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) didn’t leave behind his hallucination of David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) in his cell in prison when he escaped. TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek of the Thursday, July 23, Season 19 finale of Criminal Minds: Evolution, featuring the two.
With the guard’s uniform he used to escape in the backseat, Voit has pulled over. “That is a nice trick, swapping out the license plates on this car, but don’t you think the BAU told local cops to pull over every car that even remotely looks like the one you drove out of Butler?” Hallucination Rossi remarks. But as Voit points out, “they’re not the ones calling the shots.” He knows he has a few more hours before there’s a full-court press.
Voit’s hallucination of Rossi then asks, “What if you can’t find this guy?” As Voit continues looking up Deena, one of his victims, he answers. Watch the full sneak peek above for his answer. Plus, check out an exclusive photo from the finale:

Deena is the victim whose father The Fan (Justin Kirk‘s James Crowley, the “guy” mentioned in the clip) claimed to be visiting Voit in prison for when the two first came face-to-face. During their last encounter, James showed Voit a photo of his family, leading the imprisoned killer to become concerned. The end of the penultimate episode saw him escape, with Hallucination Rossi wishing him luck.
“This is somebody who doesn’t want to be in the spotlight, who doesn’t want anyone to know his biggest shame and yet everybody knows it. So he went from unknown to household name and with that journey comes a lot of mind games for him. And I think it just felt right that we were having Rossi be the voice that came through in his head,” showrunner Erica Messer told TV Insider of Voit seeing a version of the agent this season, a reversal of what Rossi has seen in the past.
In the Season 19 finale, titled “Bad Blood,” Paramount+ teases, “Now that The Fan has been identified, the BAU and Elias Voit must disrupt his carefully laid plans in order to save his final victims. They discover that the answers they seek, about his fixation with Voit and his current location, lie in The Fan’s twisted past. The ultimate showdown with the shadowy villain awaits them in this climactic finale. Clark Gregg returns as Ray Madison, Director of the FBI.”
