  • Hathaway appeared on Today with Tom Holland to promote their new movie, The Odyssey.

Anne Hathaway‘s Today interview took an emotional turn, but for a sweet reason.

The actress appeared on the Thursday, July 16, episode of Today alongside Tom Holland to chat about their new film, The Odyssey. At the end of the interview, Hathaway became emotional upon receiving a surprise gift from Craig Melvin and the Today team.

“We wanted to celebrate you, and we wanted to celebrate your bun there in the oven,” Melvin stated. “We got you a baby gift, and this is not something that you could find in stores.” (Last month, Hathaway announced that she is pregnant with her and her husband Adam Shulman’s third child.)

Hathaway fanned her face as she got teary-eyed over the adorable gift, which she called “so cute.” Explaining the gift, Melvin shared, “When the child comes out, we want the child ready for battle. It is a Trojan outfit, custom-designed for the baby.”

Hathaway was all smiles as she looked at the present, which consisted of baby-sized, crocheted Trojan armor, including a helmet, diaper, cape, and sandals. “Who is talented enough to make all of this?” she asked, to which Melvin replied that members of Today‘s wardrobe team were responsible for putting the gift together.

Melvin wrapped up the interview by joking that the Today team will give Holland a similar gift if he becomes a dad one day. “So, Tom, when you have your child…” Melvin began, to which Holland finished, “I know where to come. I’ll come right back here.” (Holland quietly tied the knot with Zendaya earlier this year.)

Hathaway thanked Melvin, stating, “This is appropriately epic. Thank you so much. This is amazing.” He responded, “Congratulations on the film that you’ve created, and the life that you’re creating, as well.”

Fans gushed over the gift via social media. “Stop this is so cute,” one user wrote underneath a clip of the moment on Today‘s Instagram page. Another added, “THIS IS SO CUTE OMG.” Someone else shared, “Craig is such a sweetie lol.” (The post’s caption credited the crocheted items to the Etsy shop BitofWhimsyCrochet.)

“Awww. That has to be one of the most wholesome things I’ve seen. Kudos to the people who created the baby’s costume. So amazing,” a different person commented underneath another Today Instagram clip. A separate commenter stated, “I love everything about this video.”

Earlier in the interview, Melvin shared a tweet someone recently wrote about Hathaway, which read, “Anne Hathaway having 5 movies premiering this year and then announcing that she is pregnant is the level of productivity that men can’t achieve.”

The Odyssey is one of five movies Hathaway has premiering in 2026, including Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The End of Oak Street, and Verity. “You’ve made everyone else in Hollywood look and feel lazy. A new child coming, and five films,” Melvin quipped.

Hathaway said it’s “crazy” that major moments in her career and personal life are happening at the same time. “I’ve been doing this for a very, very, very long time, and I hope to do it for a long time to come. And so, you just never know. There’s peaks, there’s valleys, there’s everything in between,” she said. “And so, it’s just crazy to have a time like this where you pull these cards. And the thing that’s so exciting is they’re films that audiences want to see.”

She continued, “One of my favorite things in the world is going to the movies. And so, to be a part of something, a part of a year where so many people are just excited to go out and experience cinema, and then to have this personal thing going on at the same time, it’s amazing.”
