Is ‘Sugar’ Renewed for Season 3?
Apple TV, in 2024, unveiled one of the most surprising, genre-bending series with Sugar, starring Colin Farrell as a private investigator with a sci-fi twist.
At first, it seemed like just another mystery series, only to, late in the first season, reveal that Farrell’s John Sugar is an alien! That changed everything. Now, the series returns for a second season on Friday, June 19, with the PI tackling a new mystery and trying to find answers about his missing sister.
But will the streaming series be back for more? Read on for everything we know so far about Sugar Season 3, from a possible premiere date to the cast and more.
Is Sugar renewed for Season 3?
No, not yet. But Season 2 has yet to premiere, with episodes releasing weekly on Fridays from June 19 through August 7.
Season 1 dropped on Apple TV from April 5 through May 17, 2024. The sci-fi series wasn’t renewed for Season 2 until five months later, in October 2024. A Season 3 pickup could follow the same timeline.
When does Sugar Season 3 premiere?
It was about two years between the releases of Seasons 1 and 2. The timeline for a third will depend on if and when it’s renewed and the start of production. It’s possible that it could be just as long between Seasons 2 and 3, should it return for more.
Who’s in the Sugar cast?
Colin Farrell stars as John Sugar. There’s a new cast joining him for Season 2: Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly, and Sasha Calle. Shea Whigham is a special guest star.
Sugar is created by Mark Protosevich. Sam Catlin serves as showrunner for Season 2 and executive produces with Audrey Chon, Simon Kinberg, Farrell, Scott Greenberg, and Chip Vucelich.
What is Sugar about?
Sugar puts a contemporary — and sci-fi — twist on the private detective story.
In Season 2, Apple TV teases, Sugar “takes on a new missing persons case — searching for the older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer — all while continuing the search for his beloved missing sister. As the investigation expands into a citywide conspiracy with sinister intentions, Sugar must reckon with himself to answer the question — how far will he go to do what’s right?”

LOVE, love this show. Isn’t just another detective series it has so much style. The cinematography is incredible, and I loved how it mixes the feel of old Hollywood with a modern mystery. Those classic movie clips throughout the episodes gave it such a unique atmosphere and made it feel different from anything else I’ve watched.

Great show. I’m more into Sci Fi but plots are engaging! With hints steering towards Sci Fi, can’t wait for season 3! Just not enough episodes anymore….

I love the atmosphere of this series and the potential for the storyline to delve into Sugars alien connection would reveal another exciting layer.

Too little, too late. I had already given up on the show before the big reveal, and since I dislike gimmicks of all kinds it's not enough to get me interested again.
