‘Today’ Fans Gush Over Craig Melvin’s Sweet Bond With the Gerber Baby

Today fans can’t get over Craig Melvin‘s latest on-screen interview.

During the third hour of Today‘s Tuesday, June 2, episode, Melvin and his colleagues Dylan Dreyer and Kaylee Hartung announced 10-month-old Cameron Chung from Minnesota as the 2026 Gerber Baby. The hosts sat down for an interview with Cameron and his parents, Rachael Olsen and Alden Chung.

“Oh, my gosh. Amazed. It’s still very surreal,” Olsen said of Cameron being picked as this year’s Gerber Baby. “We were very in shock, but it has been the coolest experience and a very full-circle moment. Gerber was his first food, so yes, very much in shock.”

Cameron’s dad, Alden, said he still “can’t believe it,” adding, “I still remember getting the first call and celebrating like no tomorrow. Can’t believe it happened, and it’s just a one-in-a-million chance.”

Throughout the interview, Cameron made cute noises and moved around excitedly. At one point, he reached to Melvin, and his mom handed him over to the host. “He just wants to meet people!” Alden quipped.

Melvin was delighted to hold the little one. “You know what? You should be the Gerber Baby. Not just handsome. [He’s got] personality,” he gushed. Melvin bounced Cameron on his lap, and he and Dreyer fawned over the baby.

Cameron went on to touch Melvin’s face. “He wears a lot of makeup,” Dreyer jokingly told Cameron. The baby eventually placed his hands in Melvin’s mouth, after which he remarked, “You’ll get this many teeth one day!”

As the interview wrapped up, Melvin told Cameron’s parents, “You need to get this kid in, like, some acting classes.” Referring to his own hids, Melvin noted, “This brings back memories. It brings back fond memories.” (Melvin shares his son, Delano, and daughter, Sybil, with his wife, Lindsay Czarniak.)

The interview ended with the hosts gifting Cameron a Today-themed onesie.

Today‘s official Instagram page shared a sweet montage of Melvin’s interactions with Cameron on Tuesday, writing, “Introducing Cameron Chung, the 2026 Gerber Baby! Looks like Craig might have a new best friend.”

Fans reacted to the sweet interview in the post’s comments. “For a second, I thought Craig had a new baby! Definitely Baby Love,” one user joked. Another added, “Love Craig Melvin!! He has a new best friend.”

Someone else gushed, “The perfect Gerber baby! He is absolutely adorable, and seems like such a happy baby.” A different person posted, “Look at those two new besties hamming it up.” A separate commenter shared, “He was so happy and good on tv today so sweet. Oh and you to Craig lol.”
