‘The Price Is Right’ Contestant Loses Trip After Not Listening To Her Friend
Your friends know what’s best for you! A The Price Is Right contestant lost out on going on a trip after not listening to her friend’s advice.
Beatrice Catalan won the sixth item up for bid on April 2. She had the highest bid of $801 on an indoor garden that included a shelf with four planters and a seed starter bundle. The actual retail price was $830, so she won the planters and got to play a game for another trip.
Catalan played Check Game for a trip to Coastal Delaware. The trip included round-trip Coach airfare to Dover, then to Rehoboth Beach. From there, the contestant would have a five-night stay at The Avenue Resort and Spa, which included daily breakfast, a couples’ massage, a rental car, and a $100 gift card for on-site dining.
All she had to do was write an amount on the big check in front of her. If the price of the check and the price of the trip fell between $8,000 and $9,000, she would win the check and the money.
Before writing the amount, Catalan turned to her friends in the audience and asked for their advice. They shouted a few suggestions. One of them sounded like $1,700.
“$1,700?” the game show contestant asked. When her friend nodded, she groaned. But, right before Catalan was about to write down an amount, a man in the audience shouted, “3,000.”
The last amount she heard must have stuck in her mind, and she wrote “$3,000” on the check. The Price Is Right contestant only had $6,000 to spare for the trip.
The amount of the trip was $7,137, which was a total of $10,137. So, Catalan did not win the trip.
“Beatrice should have listened to her friend when she said $1700, but no worries, she ended up having a great day today,” a YouTube user said.
“Agree should’ve listened to her friends when one of them said $1,600, the other said $1,700, the friend was right,” another replied.
“Failed,” another commented.
While spinning the wheel, Catalan tied at .75 with another contestant, Kiersten. They spun again, and this time, Catalan spun a .60 while Kiersten spun a .10, so Catalan advanced to the Showcase.
The Price Is Right contestant bid $24,100 on a six-night trip to Italy, a home office, a coffee bar, and a frozen drink maker. The actual retail price was $25,334, giving her a difference of $1,234.
Since her opponent, Genesis, went over, Catlan won and got to take home everything in the Showcase. She was the biggest winner of the day with $26,164 worth of prizes.
