‘NCIS’ & ‘NCIS: Origins’ Set Crossover: How the Prequel & Present-Day Shows Will Work Together

Wilmer Valderrama as Torres on 'NCIS,' Austin Stowell as Gibbs on 'NCIS: Origins'

Well, we certainly didn’t expect this to happen! NCIS and its prequel, NCIS: Origins, will be crossing over in the 2025-2026 season!

Yes, the shows set in 2025 and the ’90s will be joining forces … in a way. As Wilmer Valderrama (Nick Torres, NCIS) and Austin Stowell (Leroy Jethro Gibbs, NCIS: Origins) announce in the video above, on Tuesday, November 11, there will be a two-part crossover. Valderrama calls it “an NCIS crossover event like no other,” while Stowell adds, “The goal: to resolve a case at that spans decades.” Watch the announcement above.

The two shows will be swapping time slots for the event, with NCIS taking Origins‘ 9/8c slot. That’s because it all begins on the prequel, with Gibbs and the team investigating a small-town death of a naval officer in the ’90s, and that case will be unexpectedly reopened in the present day on the mothership.

This is far from the first crossover for the franchise. There have been crossovers over the years with NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, and NCIS: Hawai’i, including a three-show event with the mothership, LA, and Hawai’i. And single characters have appeared across the franchise as well. Last season, NCIS even mentioned the Sydney team (no one appeared). And LL Cool J did reprise his LA and Hawai’i role as Sam Hanna on the mothership in the spring.

We already know of an actor crossing over from the mothership to the Origins prequel this fall as well: Adam Campbell, who played Young Ducky across four episodes of NCIS, will reprise the role on the prequel in its tribute to the late David McCallum. That episode, titled “The Edge” for the McCallum song that will be featured in it, does not yet have a date. In it, “Ducky is sent to Camp Pendleton to shadow the team while they work a case and, in the process, he reconnects with Gibbs after the two crossed paths years earlier.”

I really like Origins, but I'm a big Gibbs fan. Frank's cracks me up. Looking forward to this cross over show.

NCIS Sydney was originally going to air only in Australia but due to the writer and actor strikes a few seasons ago CBS needed content so aired the show. It got good ratings so they continue to air it. I liked it.

I love NCIS Sydney. Love the characters lots of chemistry. Do not like Origins not watching it.

Don’t much care for Origins. The cast seems so wooden. I enjoy Sydney and the cast is kinda quirky which I enjoy and as far as NCIS I actually enjoy it more with Parker and the rest of the cast than I did with Gibbs in the later episodes. It seemed a bit stale

To the writers, producers and NBC: I dislike NCIS-Sydney (don't worry about Australia) and NCIS-Origins is worthless. I watched Gibbs through all the season of NCIS and certainly not interested in his "early" years. Stick with NCIS the show I watch even in reruns over and over again.

I don't watch Origins, nor do I ever intend to. Just as Tony and Ziva can go on without me. Yuck! I like NCIS as is, I'm sort of fond of Sydney, loved Hawaii and Los Angeles. See no need for Origins. Had my fill of Gibbs with the original!
