“It’s surreal,” said Golden Globe winner Donald Glover about taking home the Best Actor in a Comedy trophy for the FX series Atlanta, which also won Best TV Series, Comedy. The series, already renewed for a second season, looks at life for two cousins as they try to break into the Atlanta rap scene. But the series also says much about the lives of African-American men in modern day society.

In talking to press after his win, Glover, who created Atlanta as well as serves as as executive producer, said of creating the series, “I’ve been trying to make this show for a long time,” he said. “I only cared about what people in Atlanta thought. You can’t name a show, ‘Oh, Detroit!’ and then have Detroit people hating it. I really was just only caring if my parents thought it was cool, my cousins thought it was cool, everybody who lived in Atlanta. If I could go to a Chick-Fil-A and have people be like, “You ever see that Donald Glover show?” then I was like, cool. It’s kind of touching something personal.”

All Golden Globe love aside, of course the actor was also asked about taking on the role of young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo prequel film in the Star Wars franchise. “[I’m] not getting to eat anything enjoyable for the rest of my life,” he said. “Lando is a big deal for me. It was literally the first toy I ever got. It’s interesting when you have something that’s iconic where people pay attention to it. It’s hard because you want to live up to the expectation but all you can really do is live up to your own. I really just want to have fun.”
