Katherine McNamara, best known for playing Mia Smoak / Blackstar in the superhero series Arrow, is to star opposite Matt Barr in The CW‘s upcoming pilot Walker: Independence.

According to Deadline, McNamara will play Abby Walker, a tough-minded woman from Boston’s high society who moves across the country to start a new life with her husband. But when her husband is murdered, Abby is left to wander the West alone until she bumps into Hoyt Rawlins (Barr), a lovable rogue searching for purpose.

If the character names sound familiar, that’s because they share names (and an actor in Hoyt’s case) with characters in The CW’s western-drama Walker. Barr stars in a recurring role as Hoyt Rawlins in the present-day set Walker, while Abeline Walker is portrayed by Molly Hagan. However, it’s not yet known how the 1800s Abby and Hoyt are related to the Walker characters.

The spinoff series will see Abby and Hoyt arrive in Independence, Texas, where they meet a group of diverse and eclectic residents, all running from their troubled pasts and chasing dreams of their own. As the world changes around them, Abby and Hoyt become agents of change themselves in a town where nothing is as it seems on the surface.

McNamara most recently starred in the Paramount+ miniseries The Stand, based on the 1978 novel of the same name by Stephen King. She is most known for playing Clary Fray on the supernatural drama series Shadowhunters, and Mia Smoak in Arrow, a role she has reprised in series such as The Flash, Supergirl, and Batwoman.

Next, she will be seen in the spy-thriller film Agent Game and the comedy movie El Tonto, alongside Kate Beckinsale and Jason Sudeikis. She is also set to voice Cat in the animated feature The Adventures of Bunny Bravo.
