Bones, “The Psychic in the Soup,” Thursday, March 26, 8/7c, Fox

Over 10 seasons, Bones fans have learned to be patient with Fox’s scattershot scheduling of the durable procedural. But even so, three months is a long time to wait. Returning from a hiatus with the first new episode since the milestone 200th aired in December, Bones brings back one of its most popular guest stars: impish Cyndi Lauper as psychic Avalon Harmonia, who seems to have intuited that a fellow fortune-teller has been found dead—in classic gruesome Bones fashion, liquefied inside the hollow of a tree. Or maybe Avalon has picked up on the fact that the entire Jeffersonian team is feeling the loss of their colleague Sweets, who would have turned 30 on this day.

While the squints debate whether to believe their friend’s psychic insights, and Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) ponder how to deal with their daughter Christine’s new imaginary friend, Sweets’ lingering presence makes itself known in unexpected and poignant ways. It’s good to have this family of scientific crime-solvers back.
