‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ Recruits Vixen… With a Twist!

The Waverider is getting a familiar new passenger when DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns for Season 2 this fall. The CW has revealed to TV Insider exclusively that the character of Vixen will be joining the Arrow–Flash spin-off as a series regular. However, she is going to look a little different from the Vixen fans met when Megalyn E.K. guested on Arrow last season as Mari McCabe, a Detroit vigilante imbued with the animalistic powers of a sacred totem.

Unfortunately, the in-demand actress—who wrapped A&E’s Damien this past spring and is already working in Atlanta on the sorority comedy Step Sisters with The Middle‘s Eden Sher and How to Get Away With Murder‘s Matt McGorry—is unavailable for the role as she’s looking at some possible upcoming film projects.

So instead of recasting the fan favorite, the show instead plans to introduce a new Vixen who will actually be an old Vixen. Yep, thanks to Rip Hunter’s affinity for time-travel, we’re going to meet an earlier version of the character who may or may not share some sort of historical tie to Miss McCabe. Even cooler, E.K. will continue to voice the role of Vixen in the CW Seed animated series of the same name and the door has been left open for her to guest star on any of the Arrowverse shows should her scheduling work out.

    They (Berlantiland) had ONE DAMN JOB! They had a Vixen that was viable and accepted as the character we loved. And instead of spinning her off to her own show, they gave her 30 minutes a year online. Now, they've lost the actress they introduced because they weren't using her. Meanwhile having almost zero Black women representation now in DCTV. To top it all off, they parade the actress around at the CW Upfronts as nothing more than a display of tokenism disguised as diversity. This is one more disappointment in a growing list with this group of show runners.

      while generally I agree with that. I was horrified at the 30 minute first season. Take heart last i heard the 2nd season was going to be longer.

      As for the actress. Well my sisters weren't the biggest fan of her as Vixen in person anyway and while I'd still rather have her than not. It looks like we ARE getting A vixen. So that's still +1 Black Woman character with powers even if it isn't Megalyn E.K.

      In my book this is progress. A long as she stays with the crew I'm perfectly willing to accept a new vixen.

      They had one job, to deliver an interesting character named Vixen. And now they're introducing a second one without getting rid of the other. Listen, using time-travel, we can actually have a Vixen team-up now.

      Also, one of these Vixens are a regular on LoT now, so your issues are addressed.

      Hon,knock it off. Not every DC female has to be black. Iris West was a white character in the Flash comic book. For some reason the creators of this DC universe have changed white established characters Jimmy Olsen etc to another nationality for some stupid reason. I'm getting tired of superhero shows/movies changing a characters nationality.

      Not sure if you really can say they had "one" job in this case. After all it's 4 shows with many things to do. At bare minimum...4 jobs. But many jobs within each show. So this little "you had one job" joke doesn't work at all in this case. It works as a joke when there is actually only one thing to do. So to turn the tables...you only had one point to make in your post, and you blew it.

      They just changed it to diversify their shows. The characters like Jimmy and Iris were just minor characters anyway. It's not like Supergirl or Superman were turned black. You still got the Main ones. You have to admit tho. Iris is Hot!! Jimmy is a Hunk now but a nerdy guy like the comics. I'm just saying

    I LOVED Megalyn in the role. They should rename this series: I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League since we have Not Black Canary, a partial Not Firestorm and now Not Vixen. If you throw in Linda Park as Not Dr. Light, that completes the set. That being said, I have enjoyed Sara and Jax, but I also want my DC characters to be who they are in the comics. Laurel needs to come back and they should have made Jax into Jason Rusch in the first place.
