Nick Lachey Brings Up Jessica Simpson Marriage on ‘Love Is Blind’

Nick Lachey helps Love Is Blind participants navigate their romances alongside his own wife, Vanessa Lachey, but before that, the reality star was in another famous relationship with ex-wife Jessica Simpson. In the Love Is Blind Season 11 premiere, Lachey drew from his past marriage to offer some advice.
Standing next to Vanessa, the 52-year-old singer reassured pod squad member Erika Ellis that her previous marriage wasn’t a drawback when trying to find someone new. Erika explained, “I’ve been married before, and I’ve had a tough time on dates in the past knowing when the right time to share that is.”
Nick told the Love Is Blind women before they hit the pods, “Well, as some of you may know, I was previously married before I met my incredible wife. I would make the very unique argument that it gives you a leg up because you know from that experience what it is you truly want.”

The 98 Degrees singer rarely comments about his ex, with whom he married in 2002 after four years of on-and-off dating. Shortly after, Nick ventured into reality TV, not as a host, but as a star, in Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. The relationship-focused show wrapped with three seasons in March 2005, and they separated less than a year later, with their divorce being finalized in June 2006.
“We were young and pioneering our way through reality television, always mic-ed and always on,” Jessica recalled in her 2020 Open Book memoir. “We worked and we were great at it but when it came time to being alone, we weren’t great at it anymore.”
Per Us Weekly, Nick had a similar view of why their relationship fell apart, telling reporters at the time of their divorce that he was “told” his marriage was over. “Jessica and I began playing these parts even when we were by ourselves,” he said in 2006. “It became a really blurred line. There was a question about what truly was our reality.”
That same year, sparks flew between Nick and Vanessa when the latter starred in his “What’s Left of Me” music video. They married in 2011. While working on more shows like The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On and Perfect Match, the couple parents their three children. As for Simpson, the singer married now-ex husband Eric Johnson in 2014, having three kids before their 2024 split.
