Tom Bennett

For the first part of his career, Tom Bennett might have been known better for who his father was than for what he was doing. His dad, Colin Bennett, was best known for his turn as Mr. Bennett from BBC kids shows in the 1980s, so Tom growing up in London had to contend with his peers knowing his father from television. It's only fitting that the same television is what led to Tom's acting and writing career. He first appeared on television in 2004 on the sketch comedy competition show "Shoot the Writers!" (ITV 2004- ) and followed that up with a number of appearances on various British shows, most notably "EastEnders" (BBC 1985- ) and "Foyle's War" (ITV/PBS 2002-2015). It took him five years before he got a leading role on a regular series, starring as Christopher in the comedy series "PhoneShop" (E4 2009-2013). He followed that up with his HBO debut in the short-lived Chris O'Dowd-starring show "Family Tree" (HBO 2013). Bennett drew acclaim across his 2016 projects, especially from his work in the Jane Austen adaptation "Love & Friendship" (2016). He also went on a bit of a mockumentary run with Ricky Gervais in "David Brent: Life on the Road" (2016) and Christopher Guest in the Netflix movie "Mascots" (2016). The next year, he appeared on the comedy programs "Drunk History: UK" (Comedy Central 2015- ) and "Murder in Successville" (BBC Three 2015- ).
