Samm Hodges is an American writer, producer and voice-over actor who broke out in 2017 when the webseries he co-created, "Downward Dog" (ABC, 2017- ), premiered as a TV series on the ABC network. 2017 may have been a breakout year for Hodges career-wise, but he had already been working fairly regularly in multiple capacities in the entertainment industry. Hodges began his career as the art director for the animated short film "The Story of Seema" (2008). In 2010 and 2011 he worked as a cinematographer, animator and director for the short online documentary series "Footnote" (2010-11). Hodges gained a wide breadth of experience while working on the series, which he soon parlayed into documentary work of his own. Over the next few years Hodges directed two documentary short films of his own, "Illusions" (2012) and "Seven Days" (2013), thus further raising his profile in the entertainment industry. Then in the mid-2010s Hodges co-created, along with Michael Killen, a web series comedy about a woman and her talking dog called "Downward Dog." Hodges voiced the role of the dog on the series, and also wrote many of its episodes. "Downward Dog" was a big hit with viewers on the Internet, and was eventually picked up by ABC to be turned into a half-hour comedy. The series debuted on the network in the spring of 2017.
