NSYNC

NSYNC Headshot

Band

Members: Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez

One of the most popular boy bands in pop history, NSYNC were created when music manager Lou Pearlman met with singer Chris Kirkpatrick in 1995. Kirkpatrick had failed to make the cut for Pearlman's most recent musical act, the Backstreet Boys, and he was interested in forming his own group. Pearlman gave him leave to find additional members for the endeavor, and soon, Kirkpatrick brought JC Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, and Jason Galasso on board. Before long, however, Galasso left the group, and was replaced by singer Lance Bass. With their lineup secure, NSYNC signed to BMG Ariola Munich and traveled to Sweden to record their first album with producers like Max Martin and Denniz Pop. By 1997, the group released their self titled debut, which would eventually become certified Diamond-topping 10 million sales. The band released a holiday album, Home for Christmas the following year, but by 1998, differences with manager Pearlman led the group to split with him. They signed to Jive Records in 1999 and released their third album, Celebrity in 2001 to still more earth-shattering success. By 2004, however, Timberlake was ready to leave the group to focus on his solo career, thus ending NSYNC's tenure as a recording and touring entity. The group did reunite, however, for a special one-off performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
