Jan Smithers began her career with roles in "Love Story" (1973-74), "Where the Lilies Bloom" (1974) and the Scott Jacoby comedy "Our Winning Season" (1978). She went on to act in "WKRP in Cincinnati" (1978-1982), "Battle of the Network Stars VII" (ABC, 1979-1980) and "The Love Tapes" (ABC, 1979-1980). She also appeared in "Murder, She Wrote" (CBS, 1984-1996) and "The Columnist" (ABC, 1984-85). Later in her career, Smithers acted in "Mr. Nice Guy" (1987). Smithers's husband was James Brolin.
