James Baskett made his mark in the world of entertainment when he voiced characters in "Song of the South" (1946) and sang the song "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah." In 1929, he appeared with Louis Armstrong in the musical revue "Hot Chocolates" on Broadway. In 1932, he made his film debut in "Harlem Is Heaven." Baskett was cousin to Bill Cobbs.
