Environmental Media Awards

Billed as the “green standard for the entertainment industry,” these trophies are presented by the Environmental Media Association and honor films and TV shows that “increase public awareness of environmental issues and inspire personal action.” Nominees this year include One Strange Rock, VICE, and Full Frontal With Samantha Bee.

GLAAD Media Awards

GLAAD honors the best and most authentic depiction of LGBTQ lives with these annual awards, some of which went to Vida, Steven Universe, and Vida this year.

Every year, the Alliance for Women in Media hand out trophies to “exemplary programming created by women, for women and about women.” 2019’s honorees included Escape at Dannemora, Killing Eve, and Mom.

The Imagen Foundation “encourage[s] the positive portrayals of Latinos in all forms of the entertainment media,” and in 2018, Station 19 and One Day at a Time won the Best Primetime Program categories.

Power, Black-ish, and Doc McStuffins were three of the TV shows celebrated this year at this annual award show, in which the NAACP honors representations of people in color in the media.

These awards — based out of the University of George’s Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication — recognizes “socially conscious storytelling” every year. This year’s TV nominees include Blue Planet II, Hannah Gadsby: Nanette, Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj, and Pose.

ReFrame Stamp for Television

This designation is awarded to TV programs that “hire female-identifying people in four out of eight key areas of their production, including: writer, director, producer, lead, co-lead, speaking parts, department heads and crew.” For the 2017-2018 season, that stamp of approval went to shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Broad City, and GLOW.
