Friday Night Lights

This fall marks the 20th anniversary of the 2006–11 NBC drama that showed us all what it really means to love high school football. Coach Taylor’s (Kyle Chandler) guidance — “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose”—became a life philosophy for the team on the field and for their personal lives off the field. Not to mention an oft-quoted tagline by fans of the show across the country. Connie Britton as Taylor’s wife Tami (and school counselor) also helped shepherd the citizens of the fictional small town of Dillon, Texas. Stream it: Prime Video, Paramount+; 5 seasons

Revenge

In 2011, ABC returned to its Dynasty roots with a primetime soap soaked in glam, gorgeous settings, and really devious women. Emily VanCamp (below right, with Ashley Madekwe) starred as Emily Thorne, the grown daughter of a wrongfully imprisoned man framed by icy Hamptons socialite Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe). Posing as a newbie to the town, Emily battled Victoria for power, reparations, and the love of her only son, Daniel (Josh Bowman)…and nobody was safe from either of their agendas.  Stream it: Hulu, Disney+; 4 seasons

Naveen Andrews and Evangeline Lilly for 'Lost'

Lost

When ABC’s Emmy-winning drama from Damon Lindelof and J.J. Abrams exploded in the fall of 2004 with tales of survivors of a plane crash, audiences had no idea what they were getting into: an island survival adventure with huge dollops of romance, sci-fi and eventually the Bible and faith. Stream it: Hulu, Disney+; 6 seasons

La Brea

Land of the Lost meets Lost in NBC’s 2021 action drama when a giant sinkhole opens up in front of Los Angeles’ iconic La Brea Tar Pits, sending those sucked into the void back to the same area, but circa 10,000 BCE. While the survivors race to create a new society and fight off the prehistoric beasts lurking in their new (old) world, things get just as wild up above in modern times after several Angelenos find out a terrifying truth as they search for their missing loved ones. Stream it: Peacock, Tubi, Netflix; 3 seasons

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny for 'The X-Files'

The X-Files

It’s been over 30 years since the world first learned that the truth was out there. Chris Carter‘s sci-fi series on Fox is still considered one of pop culture’s biggest phenomena, thanks largely to its leads: David Duchovny as earnest FBI agent Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as his partner, skeptical doctor Dana Scully. The original nine seasons paved the way for today’s genre shows, and both the banter and the strange cases — ranging from alien stories to “monster of the week” oddities—still hold up. Stream it: Hulu, Disney+, Pluto TV; 11 seasons
