The showrunner of CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery, Alex Kurtzman, just signed a massive five-year, $25 million extension deal with CBS Television Studios to expand the sci-fi franchise.

Kurtzman will be tasked with growing the Star Trek brand to include more fresh content such as new series, a possible mini-series, and animated shows.

The co-creator of 'Star Trek: Discovery' extended his production agreement with CBS through 2023.

Coming with this new deal are the growing rumors that Star Trek: The Next Generation alum Patrick Stewart could be reprising his role as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard (from the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV show) in a spinoff show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
