‘Only Murders in the Building’: Who Will Be the Next Victim?
Only Murders in the Building Season 6 may already have a murder victim at the center of its latest London-set mystery, but as we look ahead to the show’s future, we’re wondering who might be the next death should the comedy return for Season 7.
It has been reported that a writers’ room will locate itself in New York for Season 7, which hasn’t officially been greenlit by Hulu, but it does offer some idea of where Season 6’s story will end as action across the pond comes back to the Big Apple. As fans will recall, Season 6’s victim is Cinda Canning (Tina Fey), the podcast guru who inspired Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) to launch their own true crime venture.
Revealed in Season 5’s finale, we’re sure Season 6’s finale is likely to follow the pattern, introducing the next victim for Season 7, and with a return to New York post-London, that narrows down the options. Uma (Jackie Hoffman)
A longstanding resident of the Arconia, Uma (Jackie Hoffman) has become somewhat of a series regular, but her side-character status also puts her in danger because proximity to the podcasting trio at the center of this comedy often leads to deadly consequences. After her pal Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell) fell victim in Season 2, it could be time to set the killer’s sights on Uma.
Detective Donna Williams (Da'Vine Joy Randolph)
Detective Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) has been a trusty confidante for the podcasters throughout the show’s run, and while we’d hate to say goodbye to her, she feels like a potentially prime victim for the show. One plus of playing a victim is that oftentimes fans see more of that character onscreen, and we’d always enjoy more time with Randolph.
Teddy Dimas (Nathan Lane)
An on-and-off returning favorite, Teddy’s (Nathan Lane) role has diminished over the seasons, and by killing him off, he’d get more of a spotlight, and we would never mind that. Could he be the next victim? He’d certainly be a surprising choice, with Lane having been an OG cast member, but is it too early for his demise in this universe? Only time will tell.
Howard Morris (Michael Cyril Creighton)
Trusty Howard (Michael Cyril Creighton) has become a bit of a fourth arm on the investigative team behind the titular podcast helmed by Charles, Oliver, and Mabel. Could his regular appearances have been setting up for deadly consequences? We wouldn’t be shocked if Howard fell victim due to his involvement with the main trio, but would the comedy push the envelope that far? We’re interested to find out.
Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep)
A big twist would be killing off Oliver’s bride, Loretta (Meryl Streep), who has become a recurring fan favorite. Who doesn’t enjoy Meryl Streep on their screens? But could other projects pull her away from the show? If Big Little Lies makes a Season 3 comeback, that’s certainly a possibility, and we wouldn’t mind spotlighting Loretta and Oliver more, even if she has to go.
The trio
Would the series go so far as to kill off one of the main trio? While it’s the least likely path, Only Murders in the Building could take a massive swing and victimize one of its leading stars for a poignant Season 7 run. But which of the three would fall victim? We can’t even begin to imagine.
