Tony Shalhoub Returns for ‘Mr. Monk’s Last Case’ — Watch Movie Trailer (VIDEO)
For Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub), working again is “like riding a bicycle,” and that means “it’s terrifying.”
The iconic character is back in Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, premiering on Peacock on Friday, December 8, and the streaming service has released a trailer, new photos, and key art. (Monk aired for eight seasons from 2002 through 2009.)
For a while, Monk was solving a major case a week. “I couldn’t have done it alone,” he says, before adding, “I could’ve, but it would’ve taken longer.” Watch the trailer above for a look a Monk’s return, the case, and much more.
Also returning from the original series are Ted Levine, Traylor Howard, Jason Gray-Stanford, Melora Hardin, and Hector Elizondo. New cast members include Caitlin McGee as Molly Evans and James Purefoy as Rick Eden.
In Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, Shalhoub’s character returns to solve one last, very personal case involving his beloved stepdaughter Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding.
“It’s been nearly fourteen years since the world has seen a fresh installment of Monk. The world has changed mightily in those intervening years and Monk 2023 reflects the changing world,” creator, writer, and executive producer Andy Breckman, executive producer David Hoberman, and director and executive producer Randy Zisk said in a statement.
“We’re so delighted to have made a movie version of Monk, and we are thrilled that every one of our stars were so enthusiastic about coming back. But in coming back, we wanted to do a film that was worthy of our legacy,” they continued. “Mr. Monk’s Last Case is a story that is powerful, emotional, funny, heartwarming, and has something to say about the human condition. And it will be both familiar and surprising.”
Shalhoub also executive produces. The movie is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.
