William Golding’s seminal 1954 classic, Lord of the Flies, is getting the screen treatment yet again — this time, as a series, which debuted in February in the U.K. and is reaching a wider audience on Netflix starting Monday, May 4.
The four-part miniseries is the newest adaptation of the survival novel, which centers on a group of schoolboys who crash land on an island and begin separating into warring factions in their quest to survive being stranded together.
Previously, the story was adapted into two major motion pictures of the same name, first in 1963 and then again in 1990.

Ralph (James Aubrey, Balthazar Getty, and Winston Sawyers)
Ralph is the 12-year-old protagonist of the story who tries to keep the boys together in a structured and civilized island society.
Piggy (Hugh Edwards, Danuel Pipoly, and David McKenna)
Piggy is the second-in-command for Ralph’s faction, serving as his witty, bespectacled sidekick.
Jack (Tom Chapin, Chris Furrh, and Lox Pratt)
Jack is the primary antagonist of the story who leads a group in rebelling from Ralph’s way of life, ultimately giving into his instincts for savagery.
Roger (Roger Elwin, Gary Rule, and Thomas Connor)
Roger is Jack’s right-hand man who takes drastic and deadly action against others in the camp out of cruelty.
Simon (Tom Gaman, James Badge Dale, and Ike Talbut)
Simon is a good-natured little boy who doesn’t quite align with the ways of either Ralph or Jack.
Sam and Eric (David and Simon Surtees and Noah and Cassius Flemyng)
These twins align with Ralph at first but find themselves manipulated by Jack’s ways.
Percival (Kent Fletcher and Freddie Lee-Grey)
One of the prominent “littleluns” is Percival, whose innocence is tested throughout the experience.
