Jackson Avery survives the fog

The Season 15 finale turned out to be a bit anticlimactic — remember when Jackson’s (Jesse Williams fall into a shallow ditch was a plot point? The ended on an ominous note, though, with Maggie (Kelly McCreary) not being able to find him in the fog. ABC promised Williams will be back, but he did just book a Broadway gig, so we’re worried.

Mer,  Alex, and Richard’s firings are consequential

Too often, departing docs find their way back to Grey Sloan within a few episodes — think Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) suspension, Alex’s (Justin Chambers) job with Dr. Butthole, Cristina’s (Sandra Oh) time in Minnesota. We have no doubt that Mer, Alex, and Richard (James Pickens Jr.) will return to the fold, too, but it better not happen immediately.

Meredith and DeLuca stay together

After so many false starts — Nathan Riggs, Will Thorpe, that hunky transplant surgeon, Ted from How I Met Your Mother — we’re ready for Meredith to find the next great love of her life. And though we were skeptical at first, we’re on board with her romance with Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) now, especially because he went to jail for her.

Owen and Teddy stay together

Speaking of false starts, Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy (Kim Raver) might have finally gotten their timing right, just in time to raise their newborn together. Gotta say, we were rooting for Owen and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), but now we’re just eager for the love triangle to end.

Koracick finds someone else to woo

Sure, Koracick (Greg Germann) is smarmy, and okay, his love story with Teddy never seemed as epic as the one she shares with Owen, but the dude still spent the Season 15 finale constructing baby furniture for a child that wasn’t his. He’s clearly deserving of love from someone.

Amelia finally gets a happily-ever-after

Poor Amelia Frances Shepherd. One of her engagements ended in tragedy, another ended in heartbreak, another ended in a brain tumor marriage. And just went she legit fell for Owen, he got back with his ex. We want to see her happy — if not with Link (Chris Carmack) then maybe with Carina (Stefania Spampinato), on whom she was once crushing.

Jo and Alex find their way back to one another

Alex finally helped Jo get the help she needed in the Season 15 finale, accompanying her to the Grey Sloan psych unit. Therapy is always a good idea, especially when you’re dealing with the revelation that your father was a rapist, and we can only imagine that Jo’s treatment will get her back in the “marital bliss” mindset.

Schmitt gets someone who deserves him

Yes, Nico (Alex Landi) is a fine specimen, and yes, he finally apologized to Schmitt (Jake Borelli) in the finale, but we still haven’t forgiven him for being such a @#$% for much of Season 15. (Trouble is, there are no other out queer men on the show.)

The other interns stick around

Schmitt was the breakout star of the hospital’s so-called B-Team, but we genuinely like this latest intern class — Parker (Alex Blue Davis), Helm (Jaicy Elliot), and Qadri (Sophia Ali). We hope they get more action in Season 16.

Izzie comes back

Yes, we know Katherine Heigl had a huge falling out with Shonda & Co., and yes, we’re sure her Season 6 exit was best for all parties, but is what she did so unforgivable that we can’t ever get closure to her and Alex’s storyline?

Stephanie returns

Not only was Stephanie one of the smartest and most conscientious Grey Sloan fixtures— inside the OR and out — but Jerrika Hinton is also a powerhouse actress. Five seasons with her were too few.

We see Calzona one way or another

We can infer that Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) got back together with Callie (Sara Ramirez) in New York City after the Season 14 finale, but we’d like to see proof of that romantic reconciliation, too. What if a Grey Sloan doc needed an ortho consult in the Big Apple in Season 16?

April brings a homeless patient into the hospital

Neither of Sarah Drew’s two post-Grey’s pilots were ordered to series, meaning there’s no justice in the world. But what if a Season 16 storyline involved April’s new profession and gave her reason to return to her former workplace?

The timeline lines up with Station 19’s

It was incongruous to see Ben (Jason George) pop up at the hospital last season while we were still waiting to see if his Station 19 colleagues survived the spinoff’s mid-season cliffhanger. Do better, ABC scheduling team!

We get another pulse-pounding episode

Remember the Super Bowl episode? The hospital shooting? The time when Stephanie turned a rapist into a human torch? Our adrenaline never surged the same way last season, so we want more intensity come Season 16.

It won’t be the last season

Ellen Pompeo already signed on the dotted line for a presumed Season 17, but you never know when she and Shonda Rhimes might decide to pull the plug.

Grey’s Anatomy is officially in its victory lap era, having already become the longest-running primetime medical drama in the history of American television earlier this year.

But that doesn’t mean we expect the ABC hit to take its foot off the gas! We have 16 hopes for the forthcoming 16th season, and to the writers of Grey’s, we say, “Pick these, choose these, love these.”
