While Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us received multiple nominations, one of the most surprising and exciting is young star Asante Blackk’s nomination for his role as a young Kevin Richardson.
Fleabag‘s Grab
The highly-acclaimed comedy Fleabag earned multiple nominations including an exciting nod for Sian Clifford as Fleabag’s unhinged sister Claire.
A Headey Performance
There was little doubt Game of Thrones would snag multiple nominations, but one surprising nod includes Lena Headey’s final season as Cersei in which she seemingly stood by a window with wine in hand the entire time.
Schitting Gold
The cult-comedy favorite Schitt’s Creek finally got some Emmy love for its recent fifth season, but of all of the show’s nods, none are as exciting as Catherine O’Hara’s long-deserved recognition as Moira Rose.
Hauntingly Absent
Netflix’s anthology horror series The Haunting of Hill House seemed like the prime prospect for at least a directing nomination for Mike Flanagan, but this fan favorite drama didn’t receive any Emmy love.
Making a Dream Team
Making It‘s Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman received an exciting nomination for their hosting duties on the crafting show.
Bodyguarded
Bodyguard‘s Richard Madden seemed like a sure bet for an acting nod, but the Game of Thrones alum was excluded from the lineup.
Can’t Catch a Break
Hulu’s limited series Catch-22 didn’t get any love despite predictions that its heavy-hitting cast could pull in some recognition. The well-made series certainly had enough going for it, but it mustn’t have been enough for Emmy voters.
No Kidding
Even though Showtime’s comedy Kidding received rave reviews, it was noticeably absent from the nominations, in particular star Jim Carrey.
The nominations for the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards have arrived, and there are plenty of snubs and exciting surprises when it comes to the stars and series recognized.
