What’s Worth Watching: ‘Atlanta’, ‘Deadliest Catch’, ‘Taking Fire’ and more for Tuesday, September 13
Atlanta (10/9c, FX): In another strong episode of this exceptionally authentic comedy, Earn (Donald Glover) is caught in a modern variation of an old sitcom staple—the broke young man taking his girl (Zazie Beetz) to dinner without means to pay—while Alfred “Paper Boi” (Brian Tyree Henry) and Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) find themselves in more serious straits during a drug deal that takes some scarily surreal turns. The episode is titled “Go for Broke,” and that’s how Atlanta plays it with such bracing originality.
Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove (9/8c, Discovery): A spinoff of the enduring docu-reality series is set in Newport, Ore., known as the “graveyard of the Pacific” for the toll the elements take on the local crab fisherman.
Taking Fire (10/9c, Discovery): An even more inherently dangerous way of life is captured in this immersive five-part documentary series, using helmet cams to capture the chaotic urgency on the ground as experienced by the 101st Airborne Divison, stationed in Afghanistan’s Taliban territory.
Inside Tuesday TV: Time for America to vote one last time, as NBC’s America’s Got Talent (8/7c) presents the Top 10 acts in the live performance finale, all vying for the $1 million prize that will be awarded Wednesday. … If your appetite for political TV is bottomless, consider some historical perspective with PBS’s The Contenders — 16 for ’16 (8/7c, check local listings at pbs.org), an eight-week series that compares and contrasts past presidential campaigns of note.
