Grey’s Anatomy fans are in for a blast from the past as occasional guest star Jeff Perry is set to return in Season 15.

After recently wrapping up his role as the conniving Cyrus Beene on fellow Shondaland series Scandal, Perry is ready for more drama back at Grey Sloan Memorial. Perry was first introduced as Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) absentee father Thatcher Grey in the second season of the long-running ABC series.

Entertainment Weekly broke the news Monday, though the circumstances surrounding Thatcher’s return are still unclear. The character was last seen in Season 7, so it’s been some time. Now that so many years have passed, could the tense relationship between father and daughter be mended?

As viewers know, Thatcher wasn’t much of a father to Meredith, as he left her and her mother when she was young. But he did go on to have Meredith’s half-sisters Lexi (Chyler Leigh) and Molly (Mandy Siegfried). Plus, there were Thatcher’s health issues related to alcoholism, which may be another driving force for his comeback — he’s been a patient before.

Either way, it’s thrilling to see the Shondaland vet return to the series once more. We’re sure whatever the writers cook up is sure to please fans who are fond of throwbacks.
