Burke Ramsey in '20/20' special

JonBenét Ramsey‘s older brother, Burke Ramsey, is opening up about the impact of his sister’s murder in a rare interview for the 20/20 special, JonBenét Ramsey: Race Against Time, Who Is Unknown Male 1? — A New Diane Sawyer Investigation. This interview marks his first video interview since 2016.

“To lose a sister and a daughter like that, it’s just one of the worst things imaginable to happen to somebody. And then to have the whole world turn against you afterwards,” the 39-year-old says in a preview for the special, airing November 6 on ABC.

He adds, “It’s like, how can the world be so unfair?”

Burke was just nine years old when his six-year-old sister was found murdered in their family’s home on December 26, 1996. Thirty years later, his sister’s murder remains unsolved. For decades now, Burke and his family have been at the center of conspiracy theories that allege they played a part in JonBenét’s death.

Burke has largely stayed out of the public eye since his sister’s murder. In the 20/20 special, Burke addresses the impact the negative public attention has had on him and his family in the aftermath of such a devastating tragedy.

Throughout the episode, Diane Sawyer and chief investigative correspondent Aaron Katersky examine new evidence, including DNA from an unknown male, and secure 19 exclusive and rare interviews with nuclear family members and people closest to the case.

The last time Burke gave a sit-down interview was in 2016 on Dr. Phil. This was the first time Burke had spoken publicly about his sister’s case. Today, Burke lives a private life. His father, John, is now married to Jan Rousseaux. Patsy died in 2006 at the age of 49 from ovarian cancer.
