Michael J. Fox made a rare public appearance on Thursday (November 3) to induct his longtime friend George Stephanopoulos onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 65-year-old actor, who has lived with Parkinson’s disease since 1991, took to the stage in a wheelchair and made a speech honoring the Good Morning America cohost. Stephanopoulos’ GMA cohost, Robin Roberts, also received her name and star on the iconic walkway.
“One of the funny things about being with George all these years, if he calls you at seven in the morning, it’s to make lunch plans,’ Fox quipped, per The Daily Mail. “And dinner’s 5:30, and he’s running out the door at 6 o’clock. I think it’s a ruse not to pay the bill.”

Fox went on to say how much Stephanopoulos adores his viewers. “He loves the people who watch him every day, and I’ve seen him on several occasions have a chat with them and leave them happier than he found them.” He then joked Stephanopoulos should run for office in 2028, “Think about it… it would work, it would work.”

During his speech, Stephanopoulos described his job as a “great gift” to “cover the biggest, most consequential stories of our time, to interview the most interesting and inspiring people of our time, to be able to say good morning to the entire country every morning, not knowing what they’re going through but trying to help guide them… maybe put a smile on their face as well.”
All’s Fair actress Niecy Nash-Betts also took to the stage to induct her close friend Roberts. “Somewhere, there is a little Black girl who will see your name on this sidewalk and realize that her dreams are possible,” Nash-Betts told Roberts, per ABC News.

She continued, “We’re celebrating your courage, your faith, your kindness and the countless lives you have touched. Hollywood may be putting your star on the ground today, but you spent your life showing us how to reach for the sky.”
Roberts herself spoke of her longtime partnership with Stephanopoulos, noting how they’ve hosted GMA together since 2009. “I cannot believe that we are the longest-running duo on morning television history,” she said.
