Tracy Morgan Takes Swipe at LeBron James’ Son Bronny During NBA Season Opener
Tracy Morgan is never one to bite his tongue, and the New York Knicks superfan used his team’s big night to roast a rival player on another NBA squad.
During NBC’s broadcast ahead of the Knicks’ season opener at Madison Square Garden—where the franchise celebrated raising its first championship banner in 53 years—Morgan was caught taking aim at LeBron James son: Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James. Even though the player wasn’t anywhere near New York, Morgan jokingly delivered an unprompted jab.

“We’re scared of nobody. Bronny look like he got JUCO ball written all over him,” Morgan said live on air, doubling down with a grin: “I just wanna say what I feel.”
Co-host Carmelo Anthony responded with a laugh: “You’re going to cry tonight. That’s what I wanna see.”
As the clip from the broadcast quickly circulated across social media, fans reacted with their thoughts to Morgan’s remark. One user wrote, “Tracy Morgan is five foot nothing and four hundred pounds why is he talking on athletes lol,” while another commented, “He told no lie. And he’s an old school comedian that doesn’t pull punches. It was funny yall just soft.”
The commentary arrived amid an important night for New York basketball. Bronny is the eldest son of NBA legend LeBron James, with the pair making history together on the Lakers as the first active father-son duo to play in the league simultaneously back in 2024.
However, the elder James surprised fans over the summer by signing with the Philadelphia 76ers, setting up a division matchup to spoil the Knicks’ long-awaited ring ceremony. During opening night, fans at MSG erupted into chants of “We don’t want you!” while he was at the free-throw line. With LeBron now playing just a few states away, Knicks loyal fans like Morgan were energized to turn up the rivalry heat.
While the 30 Rock star’s remark caught plenty of attention online, Bronny enters the regular season looking to quiet his critics following a difficult preseason stretch. Lakers head coach JJ Redick acknowledged that the young guard struggled during exhibition play, though the franchise ultimately made the decision to keep him on the opening night roster.
