Anna Faris is breaking her silence after Mom creator Chuck Lorre revealed that he initially didn’t want to cast her in the hit CBS sitcom, and the actress isn’t hiding the fact that his comments stung. However, her response also included a surprising personal revelation about her own journey with sobriety.
In his new book, Sitcom: A Memoir, Lorre admitted that he was hesitant to hire Faris for the role of Christy Plunkett, a single mother battling alcoholism and drug addiction. “I initially said no; I wasn’t sure Anna would be appropriate for this kind of material,” Lorre wrote. He ultimately reconsidered, citing lessons learned from his troubled working relationship with Charlie Sheen.
The revelation apparently caught Faris off guard. In a new Instagram post, the actress acknowledged reading Lorre’s comments and admitted that they were painful.
“Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn’t see that coming. Of course it hurts,” she wrote.

Despite the surprise, Faris expressed gratitude for her seven seasons on the comedy, which ran from 2013 to 2021. “Chuck gave me a job I loved, and for seven years I never took a day of it for granted,” she continued. “I’m proud of what we made together, and nothing changes how grateful I am for those people and those years.”
Faris also shared a deeply personal update, revealing that she is now sober, drawing a connection between her own recovery and the character she portrayed for seven seasons.
“I’ve been sober for a year and a half. I was on a show about recovery, and then I lived it,” she wrote. “Now I’m healthy, I’m working, and I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time. If anyone reading this is where I was, I hope that’s useful. It gets better. I’m proof.”
Faris departed Mom ahead of its eighth and final season in 2020. Earlier this year, she opened up about her decision to leave, explaining that the intensity of the production had begun to affect her focus.
